On the night of January 20-21, the Full Moon will pass through the northern half of Earth's shadow, producing a Total Lunar Eclipse.
Why is it called a "Super Blood Wolf Moon" eclipse?
'Wolf Moon' is the name that almanac writers assigned to the first Full Moon of the year. It's often attributed to Native American folklore by these same almanacs, however, while various tribes did have names for each month's Full Moon, the almanac names are very likely made up. 'Blood Moon' obviously refers to the red color of the Moon during a total lunar eclipse.
Also, since the Moon will be very near perigee (its closest distance to Earth), it will be larger and brighter than normal - a so-called 'Super Moon'. It's an astrological term, for a New or Full Moon that is within 90 per cent of its closest approach to Earth for that month. Basically, when either the New Moon or Full Moon is closer to Earth than 361,520 km, and on January 21, just after midnight, the Moon will be at a distance of 357,728 km.
How does this affect energy flow and spell work? Well, since there is great influence of the moon on the energy flow (think tides and such at a basic level) of the earth and universal flow....the closer it is to the earth the more prevalent and intense that energy influence is. The eclipse adds a little bit of chaos to the magick however.
During a lunar eclipse a witch will face his/her insecurity, you must not only be able to imagine that a change can occur and what will this change bring but you must also have the willpower to proclaim: “I am ready and perfectly prepared for this change and I will make it happen”. A lunar eclipse is the perfect timing to face the past and find out the roots of your fears/insecurities, how they are linked to you, your emotions and your current state of being. To that personal journey you are advised to seek the guidance of your allies: angels, fairies, ghosts of loved ones, your higher self, the God(s) that will help you in your quest for truth and the time of the eclipse is perfect for that as it will allow you to contact ‘other worlds” and “other states of being”.
As a piece of advice never try spellcasting during an eclipse, unless you are very well prepared for this. Not only natural powers run loose and you will find difficult to ground them but the outcome of your spells cannot easily be predicted. It takes both a disciplined and experienced witch to harvest the power of the eclipse magic and is certainly not advised for beginners. An alternative to spellcasting can be contemplation and meditation on what you have experienced so far in your life. In addition, it is a good time to honor yourself, the Gods and beings of other worlds.
To take it one step further you may wish to initiate a contact with the Divine Forces. I will use Fairies as an example. So during an eclipse you can establish your first connection with the Fairies. Be aware that you must know well why you want to contact fairies and please bear in mind that curiosity is not a good reason.
I and my sister circle will be working the full moon eclipse energies as we always have. We offer you the ability to have us work the intense energies of this time on your behalf lending our experience and discipline to bring your desires to you.
EQUINOX IS NOW UPON US
As summer's blooms turned their fragrant heads towards autumn's call, we now celebrate Autumn Equinox. This morning we are waking up to (almost) equal hours of darkness and light.
In the Northern Hemisphere, the days become a bit cooler and shorter each day. While summer has left us with the beautiful leaves of turning gold, the winter is swiftly approaching. The gardens will soon begin to die in preparation to be reborn into a new beginning. As the sun enters Libra, it is a time of balance and to celebrate new endings with the promise of new prosperous beginnings.
The Full Moon on Monday, September 24th is called the Harvest Moon, as it occurs within 2 weeks of the Autumn Equinox. New life paths will come to light as we move forward with the Earthly tasks at hand. Now is the time to respond to life with decisive action, rather than mere contemplation. It is now a time to walk away from what no longer serves us and honor what is sacred and true.
For the next 5 weeks, focus on clearing away stagnant energy and ask the spirits of your ancestors to assist you and guide you into the new season.
The upcoming Dark Moon of October 8th will be particularly powerful for making ancestral contact, especially with spirits whom we have personally known in this incarnation. For communication with the deceased.
While we in the Northern Hemisphere are celebrating endings, our dear Witches in the Southern Hemisphere are celebrating beginnings with the arrival of Spring Equinox. I urge those in the Southern Hemisphere to celebrate within their own seasons rather than relying on European text for spiritual celebrations and dates. Being in rhythm with your local seasons, flora & fauna and other Earthly influences is the natural lifestyle of the Witch.

Take care of yourself, because we’re fast approaching one of the most emotionally challenging and deceptive retrogrades in all of astrology.
As of Oct. 5, 2018, Venus — planet of love, romance, luxury, prosperity, and affection — will begin her apparent spin backwards through orbit, taking our hearts with her. Remember that this planet isn’t all roses, diamonds, and love letters. Oftentimes, she can be jealous, possessive, and vindictive when she’s feeling threatened. And, because Venus retrograde 2018 will begin in Scorpio, an intensely passionate water sign, its effects will find your heart, intuition, and closest relationships.
Because Venus is in retrograde only 7 percent of the time, it’s in retrograde less than any other planet in astrology. This, in and of itself, makes its impact on our universe undeniably strong. And, because its shadow period began on Sept. 2, 2018, there’s a huge chance you’re already feeling its influence. Challenging your ability to give and receive affection, make wise choices with your money, and resist negative temptation, it’s wise to avoid committing to love affairs or lofty purchases during this time. When Venus is in retrograde, she’s presenting you with opportunities that might seem thrilling at first, but will only lead you toward destruction.
YOUR LOVE LIFE WILL BE PUT TO THE TESTLove is a whirlwind of chaos and confusion during Venus retrograde. If you’re in a relationship, you might face conflict with your partner that puts your commitment in jeopardy. If you’re single, you might be tempted to ignore red flags and give your heart away to someone who isn’t trustworthy. There’s also a chance that lovers or friends from your past will resurface, totally disrupting life as you know it.
Even though these romantic challenges can be severely damaging, remember that Venus is currently bringing every negative emotion in love to the forefront. She’s luring your heart towards danger, and you do have the power to see beyond her ruse. If a situation seems risky, that’s because it is. Do your best to avoid toxic temptation during this time and you’ll avoid much of the effects of Venus retrograde. Your ex is your ex for a reason. If you’re attracted to someone who’s clearly an *sshole, do your best to be smart.
BE CAUTIOUS WITH YOUR WALLET AND DON’T OVERSPEND
Although Venus is known for being the planet of love, she’s also the planet of luxury, and during her retrograde, all that glitters is definitely not gold. You might feel tempted to overspend on things you don’t need, giving in to opulence and pleasure when it’s not wise, and feeling insecure about your financial state.
If there’s a non-essential and overly expensive product you’re lusting over, it’s wise to hold off on making the purchase until Venus retrograde is over. By the time this haze of deception has dissipated, you might suddenly realize that that product is a total rip off.
If you’re feeling ashamed of your financial state during Venus retrograde, trust that it’s also because Venus might be making you seem a lot less fortunate than you truly are. Remember that money comes and goes. By no means does your financial state define you. When Venus retrograde has you comparing yourself to the rich and wealthy, try to feel grateful for all that you already have.
CHANNEL YOUR FEELINGS INTO CREATIVE EXPRESSIONAll retrogrades are slow, introspective, and contemplative times, but Venus retrograde involves no ordinary introspection. It’s a journey through some of the darkest shadows of your heart, and it will have you oscillating between pain and pleasure as though you’re riding a dangerous, yet exciting roller coaster ride. This energy can be heavily destructive if it isn’t given form or structure. What better a way to channel your emotions than through art, poetry, dance, and self-expression?
The upside of Venus retrograde is that it can also be a wonderfully creative time. Whether you’re feeling aroused, angry, or full of heartache during this period, these emotions are the foundation of some of the greatest works of art known to mankind. Use it to create something beautiful and you’ll look back on this time fondly.

New Moons are a time of introspection and fresh starts. When the moon is in its new phase, it doesn’t reflect the sun’s and appears dark in the sky. That darkness signifies a time of self-reflection: analyze your needs, uncover areas for self- improvement, and refocus on achieving what it is you want. Since the moon is empty of light, it is the perfect opportunity to fill it, so to speak, with your intentions, the goals you plan to work toward over the new moon cycle. The moon connects us to our emotional needs and intuition and influences us to nurture the ideas, situations, and people we value (including our self). In the spirit of new beginnings, here are some of the best things to do on the new moon.
Sage Smudging in a Native American purification ritual where white sage is used to cleanse away negative emotions and energy from people, objects, and even places. The moon rules our emotional including our subconscious feeling. Clear away emotional baggage and old ways of thinking so that you truly have a fresh perspective for a new beginning.
The moon puts focus on the things that are truly important to us; family, home, stability, and close relationships. Spend time alone reflecting on how you are connecting with each of these areas. Are your emotional needs being met? What needs to change for a better outcome? New moons make us sensitive and intuitive. Be aware of your emotional state and the things you are spending a lot of time thinking about around the new moon. Analyze what is sparking those feelings on a deep, subconscious level. The energy of the new moon intuitively guides you towards the path to take for the best outcomes.
Commit to Making a Change
The new moon is the best time to start something new. If you commit to achieving your goal, the universe will open doors of opportunity for you. It is said that it takes 28 days to make anything a habit. A moon cycle is also 28 days (not coincidence). What new habits can you commit to starting at the new moon improve your situation?
Strengthen Your Intentions with a Candle
It is a common new moon ritual to burn a candle to strengthen the power of your intentions (the things you want to accomplish). To set your intentions you simply, light a candle and spend time visualizing, praying, or meditating about what it is you want to accomplish. Create in your mind, what success looks, smells, and feels like. This energy is projected onto the candle and while it burns it strengthens your powers of attraction.
Crystals for Healing Stress
Stress is unavoidable in any society and is a symptom of our inability or ineffectiveness to accept change as fast as it seems thrust upon us. We must adapt quickly to disappointments, shock and traumas, physical pain, and other tremendous emotional and psychological imbalances in our environments. It isn't easy to keep up with the changes!
Crystals are particularly good at helping us adapt to changes in energy frequencies created through stressful situations. There seems to be a crystal for every form of stress including financial (Citrine), relationships (Rose Quartz) and burnout (Smokey Quartz). Having a large crystal in a room can also help reduce stress, by reducing negative energies and harmonizing imbalanced energy patterns.
By wearing the crystals through out the day, preferably as a full necklace, as a pendant, or in a small pouch at the Heart Chakra; the vibrations of the crystals will continue to affect areas of the imbalance, restoring a positive state where the imbalance has occurred. The effects of crystal healing at the emotional and psychological levels are subtle, yet are often noticed more by others than yourself! I have listed ten crystals and gemstones that are useful in healing stress.
Ten "Stress Stones"
Keep an Amethyst cluster at your desk or in your therapy room to transmute negative energy. Amethyst helps you think and act at your highest level. It's good for promotions (spiritual), and reduces tension headaches. Wear an Amethyst pendant continuously for migraine prevention and for alleviating arthritic pain.
The "Success Stone" - Citrine encourages a bright outlook and happiness. It attracts wealth and joy. Keep a piece in your wallet to enrich your holdings. It can help stabilize emotions and soothe family problems. Citrine is also good for improving stress-related digestive problems.
Clear Quartz can be worn as a crystal pendant to deflect radiation from going to your body. Quatrz is an excellent general physical system fortifier and protector. It increases mental clarity. Hold a clear crystal at your solar plexus and breath evenly for several minutes to calm your emotions, to relax the body, to clear the mind, and to refresh your energy. Stare into the crystal to clear writer's block and to increase creativity.
Fluorite - a stone to unblock stuck energies. For digestive systems problems use the yellow/green colour combination. For pains in the skeletal and muscular system, use the blue/white colour combination. For head area complaints, use the purple/clear combination. For asthma, wear the green coloured Fluorite. To help congested mental thoughts, use a purple cluster in your work area, or position a cluster at your crown chakra while sleeping.
Garnet - An energy revitalizer. Garnet is excellent for strengthening the base chakra. It promotes sexual energy (for your self and partner). It helps increase circulation to the legs and pelvic area. It reduces menstrual pain when held or taped over the ovaries and uterus. Garnet can increase sexual stimulation and fertility too!
"The Anti-Stress Stone". Hematite reflects back negative energies to the sender (so you don't end up taking them on yourself). Hematite dissolves the issues when one meets with confrontation. Tape a small piece over the leg and back areas to reduce pain and to increase electromagnetic circulation. Hematite helps balance the meridians.
Malachite is excellent for Type A personalities and for those prone to heart disease and stresses to internal organs. It helps to detoxify the liver and to increase blood circulation. Malachite is excellent for breaking up old energy patterns. Use it with Rose Quartz to soften the effects of a broken heart! Due to the possibly toxic copper content of this stone, keep Malachite away from pets and children, and do not wear it against the skin for long periods of time. This stone is for external use only.
"The Love Stone" - Rose Quartz is very protective and soothing for many issues. Place a large chunk of the stone at your Heart Centre for 15 minutes to relax after a stressful day. Rose Quartz helps to unblock anxiety and to promote healing of private emotional issues. It allows one to become more receptive and open to challenges.
Smokey Quartz is an excellent stabilizer for mood swings. It helps ground feelings of depression, and both absorbs and transmutes negativity. This stone is best worn at the solar plexus, the seat of the emotions. Smokey Quartz is excellent for PMS and cranky persons; and good for persons imbalanced due to extreme stress and burn-out. It provides a protective field for recovery.
"A Stone of Protection" - Turquoise is an excellent toner for all systems of the body. It helps prevent organs from absorbing toxins and breaking down. Wear this stone at the throat to strengthen your will and to communicate effectively. It helps to sweeten the voice and speak your truth. Turquoise helps reduce premature aging.
The eternal flame has played a role in human spirituality since man first discovered fire. This is the origin of candle use for spiritual intention. There is a misconception that candle burning is negative, but the reality is candle burning is a part of virtually every spiritual denomination.
Candle burning is quite intricate. There are certain days best for certain candle prayers, and there are also certain times within the lunar cycle that are best for certain types of affirmations. There are even different energies attracted or repelled depending upon the color of the candle. Here are some of the best times to burn your candles to attract what you want.
Days of the Week
Throughout human history, the heavens have played a large role in man's spirituality. The names of the planets are in reference to Roman gods, who were all based off of the Greek gods. There is a planetary body associated with each day of the week, and the characteristics of each planetary body are associated with colors. In order to invoke this ancient spiritual energy, people burn candles according to the color associated with the theme of their affirmation.
Sunday is, as the name suggests, the day of the Sun. It's a great day for intentions regarding the banishment of negative energies. It's also a good day for attracting healing energies. The color candles that burn best on Sunday are yellow, orange, and white. Anoint the candles with lavender oil or sage oil.
Monday is the Moon's day. The moon is the representation of the feminine spirit, so it’s a good day for intentions involving communication. Things like reconciliation are best wished for on Mondays. The color candles for Mondays are the colors of the moon: white and gray. Use ylang-ylang oil and lavender oil to dress the candles.
Tuesday is ruled by Mars, the Roman god of war. Tuesday is a day associated with courage, which makes it a good day for wishes for a loved one to return safely from war. It also represents the courage to face personal struggles, as well as physical challenges. Any candle burned on Tuesday should be a shade of red. Ginger oiland clove oil are best for red candles.
Mercury, the messenger of the gods in Roman mythology, rules Wednesday. This makes Wednesday a day of communication, with a focus on business transactions. It's also a great day for intentions involving the pursuit of knowledge. Yellow, purple, and gray candles are perfect to burn on Wednesdays. Anoint candles with frankincense or patchouli oil.
Thursday, ruled by Jupiter, is the perfect day for attracting luck and wealth. It's also a good day for burning candles with the intention of attracting healing energies. Farmers should burn candles on Thursdays for a healthy and plentiful crop. Blue and brown candles burn well on this day. Anoint candles with rosemary oilor lemongrass oil.
Friday is the day of Venus, who was the Roman goddess of love and sex. This makes Friday the day to perform any affirmations regarding your love life. It's also a good day to address any relationship or partnership in your life. The color candle that burns the best on Friday is pink. Ylang-ylang oil is a great oil to use on a pink candle.
Saturday is Saturn's day, and it is the day for intentions regarding a major change in your life. It's also a great day for those looking to pursue psychic wisdom, particularly in the realm of spirit communication. Affirmations for locating lost things should be done on Saturdays. This should be accentuated by burning either a gray, black, blue, or purple candle. Anoint candles with sandalwood or frankincense oil.
Candles and the Lunar Cycle Many people believe the Moon has a special influence on the subtle energies that affect their lives.
The waxing moon is the phase where the Moon is progressing from new to full. This makes it a good time for any intention involving attraction. If you're trying to attract a new job, a new lover, or more money, then you should be burning your candles during this phase.
The waning phase is when the moon is moving from full to new. This is the time for affirmations regarding removal. If you're looking to keep a certain thing from happening, then you should burn your candles during this phase. It's also the phase for anything that has to do with protection.
The new moon is the time to start new projects and set new goals. Lighting a candle during this phase can help you start anew with a fresh outlook.
The full moon is when the moon has completed its journey. It’s during this time when we celebrate all that we have accomplished and pay gratitude for all that we have. Lighting candles during a full moon is also helpful with motivation, self-improvement and increased psychic abilities.
The power of the burning candle is far beyond human comprehension. All that we know is certain days, and certain times of the lunar cycle, are essential for knowing the best time to burn candles in order to attract what you want.
When you need your relationship ignited, perform this spell to bring that heart-fluttering feeling back.
You will need the following items for this spell:
Candle (100% beeswax spell candles are fabulous for this)
A pen or pencil
A fire safe dish
Matters Of Love Ritual Herb blend from Annikas Magickal Arts (can omit, but highly suggested)
***Step 1*** Write down their name and birth date (if known) on paper (or a printed picture of them) while thinking about who you want to become passionate about you. Cover the paper with their name. No need to be neat and organized...raise that energy as you write faster and faster all over the paper. May say: "Gods and goddesses hear my plea, make (his/her name) forever want me."
***Step 2*** Optional but Suggested is to sprinkle a little of the Ritual Herb blend onto the paper then take your candle and roll the candle over the length of the paper so that some of the herb powder sticks to it as well. Continue to think about this person as if they are already with you as you do this. Then, Light the candle and place it over the picture (just a drop or two of wax will hold it in place if needed), and stare into the the flame. Say this three times, more if you want: "Like the burning flame, let passion ignite in us, connecting us forever."
***Step 3*** Allow the candle to burn down to the paper. It will usually snuff itself out but if not, pinch it out (do not blow it out or you blow the magick away) Now, light the piece of paper using your working candle or a match, then put it into the bowl. As it burns to ash, chant "Ask I ask, so it shall be" over and over again until the fire goes out.
***Step 4*** Take the remnants outside and throw it to the wind in the direction that your desired person is in. (If unknown, throw to the South).
Thank the elements and any others that you have working for you such as Deity or Spirit.
Oh, you didn't realize that the dandelion was magickal? Why yes, yes it is! You can use all parts of the plant in magick. Use it fresh, use it dried....any way you use it there is usually an abundance of them at this time of year in my area. Just free for the picking!
So...what can you do with it? Hmmmm......
Dandelion is a very Mercurial plant associated with the air element and has great use in aiding in communication with the dead and increasing psychic ability.
Drink an infusion of the dried and roasted roots to enhance your psychic abilities before performing divination or summoning spirits of the dead. Medicinally it has an “opening and cleansing quality… it opens passages”. This can be applied to sympathetic magic, meaning it is excellent for walking between realms and communing with the spirits that reside.
Dandelion Leaf: Summoning spirits, healing, purification and defeating negativity. Bury in northwest corner of yard to bring favorable winds. Use in sachets and charms to make wishes come true.
Dandelion Root: Magickal uses include divination, wishes and calling spirits. Use in dream pillows & sachets for sleep protection. Bury on northwest side of house to draw good luck. Drink dandelion tea or coffee to promote psychic powers. Leave a cup of this hot infusion by the bed to call spirits.
You can use them as part of your spellcasts in either the fresh or dried form. They are great to use as items in your spells to bring a love to you, mend relationships, and open communication too as they are "bendy" and can be entwined easily.
Be sure to check out my Facebook Page where I'll be posting a video of this spell that you can do with them for relationships:
Retrieve a Friend, Love You Lost, Relationship Spell
2 Dandelions with a relatively long stem
2 Stems only of dandelions long enough to use as a tie
2 Feathers (preferably that you find outside, if possible)
Optional: Ritual Herb Blend for your intention
If you don’t have dandelions, you can substitute it with another flower. I chose dandelions because they are sunny, easy to find, and the stems twist together more easily.
Do this outside on a sunny day.
Decide what your desired outcome of your spell is and create a quick one or two lines that will be your spell mantra.
Will it be to open communication? You might try:
Dandelion, dressed in yellow
To me you will say hello
Will it be to end an argument? You might try:
Dandelion, yellow and bright
You and I will never fight (or no longer fight)
Dandelion, bright and sweet
Speak with sugar when we next meet
To bring a love to you or to enhance the love you have? Try:
Dandelion, rooted and growing
Love in your heart is finally showing (or solidly growing)
You get the jist of it. You don't even have to make it more than: "You will call me, you will text me" over and over if you don't want to.
Take the dandelions and put them side by side. Visualize one as you and one as the other person coming together as you place them next to each other. You might feel so inclined to say something like, "This is you, and this is me. Together as one we shall be. (or some variation to fit your intention). Feel free to do so if you feel the desire to, but don't feel that you have to. Use one of the other dandelion stems to tie them together just under the flowers of both. Tight enough that the flowers touch and that you will be able to twist the stems. Then, twist the dandelions together once with each line of your spell or mantra. Repeat it until your stems are twisted together for the full length of them. Now tie it with the other stem only that you have at the end of the twisted stems so that it doesn’t fall apart. (you may need to use toes for this so it doesn't unravel) :)
Dig a shallow hole about as long as the flowers, and bury them with the petals peeking out of the hole. Do this in the front yard for new love / friendships and in the back yard for current relationships. If you don't have a yard you can bury them in a public place that each of you will have been at some point. Next, to represent freedom, stick the two feathers lightly into the ground next to the flowers. Then pat the ground three times over the buried flowers and say, "As I ask, so it shall be" with each pat. Walk away and know that your energies have been put into the universal energy flow and the best possible outcome will occur for you.
For additional enhancement of your energies and direction of the spell you can use the Time Tested Ritual Blends that are offered in the shop such as the:
Attract A New Love Interest Blend
Obtain Love Blend
Persuade You To Do Blend
Sprinkle any one or combination of over the stems of the two flowers representing you and the other person before twisting as well as over the entire flower twist once placed into the hole. You only need a pinch or two! More is NOT better when it comes to our ritual blends. They are specifically measured and infused so that just a little does a LOT!!
Oh...and one of the best things that you can do with Dandelions is......Dandelion Wine of course!! You'll have to look that DIY up on your own. :)
Candle magick is one of my favorite ways to work my personal spells. I love the ability to not only create the candles that I will be using myself but to get quite intricate in the choice of color, scent, and even the shape of the candle. You can choose anything from a simple birthday candle to a huge three wick beast of a candle for your working depending on your spellcast specifics.
There may be several "normals" out there when working your candle magick...like choosing a green candle for money for example. Just remember that it is your intention and your creativity that creates and facilitates a powerful spell. If you feel like using red for money or a green candle for love (because you're giving it the green light) then do it! It's all about YOUR WAY because there is no "right way".
When I work candle magick for someone else it becomes a totally different experience for me. The candle is created with it's magickal intent in mind right from conception. This brings the power of the intent into every aspect of the working. Every candle that is used in our candle magick offerings is hand made by me during full ritual. The candle is then used in a separate ritual to produce the magickal effects that are desired.
Again, candle magick can be one of the easiest yet most powerful forms of simple magick available. It can be as easy as blowing out your birthday candles. :)
You can learn all about Candle Magick in the Living a Magickal Life Academy class!
Rose Petal Salve is great for so many things and it's really easy to make.
I like to enrich mine with Rosehip Seed Oil which is well known for its anti-aging and skin healing benefits for conditions such as:
You can buy high quality rosehip seed oil from Mountain Rose Herbs. If you don’t want to use roseship seed oil or don’t have any on hand, you can just substitute more of your homemade rose infused oil instead and it will still make a nice salve.
Step 1: Dry the Rose PetalsTo make this, first you’ll need to gather up some unsprayed rose petals. If you don’t have any fresh roses, you can buy dried, organic petals from somewhere like Mountain Rose Herbs. Don’t use roses from the florist as they’ve usually been treated with heavy duty pesticides that haven’t been tested for use on human skin.
Once you have a collection of rose petals, spread them out in a single layer over some white paper towels, or cut open brown paper lunch bags. Let them wilt for a few days, until completely dry.
Step 2: Make an Infused OilOnce the petals are completely dried, you can turn them into an infused oil.
To do this, place your petals into a jar. The size of the jar will depend on how many flowers you have. Don’t get hung up on precise numbers and amounts. You’re basically filling some type of container about 1/2 to 3/4 full with dried rose petals then covering them with oil.
Which type of oil is up to you. I like to use Olive Oil or Sunflower Oil. Some other good options for this salve are Avocado Oil, or Sweet Almond Oil.
There are two ways to infuse our oil. The slow way or the fast way.
For the slow way, cover the top of your jar of oil with a couple layers of cheesecloth and secure it with a rubber band. Place in a cabinet and let it sit for 3 to 4 weeks.
For the fast way, set the jar gently into a pan with a few inches of warm water and heat slowly over medium lowish heat. Keep the burner on and let the oil stay in the heated water for one to two hours then remove.
At this point, you can go ahead and strain the oil and use in your salve or you can let it infuse several days longer in a dark cabinet. Another option is to strain the oil then do the whole process again with a new batch of rose petals but the same batch of oil you just finished infusing. This is called a double infusion.
The shelf life of your strained oil is about a year. Store in a cool, dark place for best results.
Once our oil is ready, we can make our salve.
Step 3: How to Make Rose Petal Salve
Remove from heat and carefully pour into tins or jars then let sit until firm. This size batch yields about four ounces of salve. I buy tins and small jars but you could even recycle an old jelly jar for this.
If you’d like to make this salve vegan, you can use half as much candelilla wax instead of the beeswax.
